Founded in 1887, MHHS is the oldest and largest animal protection organization in New York’s Capital Region, serving Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and surrounding counties. Our mission is to transform the lives of animals and people through partnerships, protection and hope. MHHS provides sheltering, care, and hope for approximately 3,000 abused and unwanted pets a year. In addition to sheltering and adoptions, we provide an ever-increasing array of services for the animals in our community and the people who love them. This includes low-cost spay/neuter and wellness services, vaccination and microchip clinics, stray housing for municipalities, dog training and behavior enrichment, animal cruelty investigations, a pet food pantry, and humane education programming for all ages.
