The Institution was founded in 1846 with funds from the Englishman James Smithson (1765–1829) according to his wishes “under the name of the Smithsonian Institution, an establishment for the increase and diffusion of knowledge.” We continue to honor this mission and invite you to join us in our quest.

The Universal Impact Pool (UIP) is a new way to amplify your charitable giving. Open to the public, this fund uses an innovative mechanism called <a href="https://wtfisqf.com/">Quadratic Funding</a> to automatically distribute matching donations to all nonprofits that receive donations or grants on Endaoment. The UIP democratizes philanthropy by placing value on the number of contributions to an organization, not the amount, within each quarter. It's an all-inclusive approach to supporting the causes you care about, and the Endaoment community as a whole, fostering a more equitable distribution of funds across the nonprofit sector.
