Mission
The African American Diabetes Association (AADA) is a national non-profit organization led by Black people. We confront the alarming health disparities and disproportionate impact of diabetes plaguing Black communities in the United States. Despite existing efforts, diabetes rates among Black Americans remain nearly twice as high as non-Hispanic whites. The COVID-19 pandemic has starkly illuminated these inequities, revealing the increased risks of severe illness and death from diabetes within Black communities. The AADA believes that Black communities deserve culturally relevant education, "about us, for us resources, and advocacy" to effectively manage and prevent diabetes. We are building an organization by and for Black people to empower individuals and bridge the gap.
